Day 30

Last day with Matt and Nick. We took some time to fill the camper with propane and empty the used water and then made pancakes for breakfast. We took a different route this time and it seemed to be faster. Ate pizza for lunch and I was fortunate enough to have my half of the pizza with vegan cheese.

We found our way to the end of Beachwood Drive to begin our hike to the Hollywood sign. There were many cars all trying to find a place to park and the road was quite narrow, places where only one car could pass at a time. Our total hiking time was 2 hours including photo opportunity breaks. We hiked up to the back of the sign first where you could get a good view of the city, of course this day there was a fair amount of smog so that limited our view of the city and the surrounding mountains. Then we walked around to get a close up view from the front of the sign. There were many varied kinds of hikers, from the older to the younger, from families, to guys with packs who did pushups at the top of the hill. The path was wide and most places not too steep although Matt and Nick did find some short cuts through the shrubs. Thankfully the weather was not too hot and there was some shade as well.

After our hike we drove over to the Griffith Observatory and had a look around and managed to be there to watch the sun set. It was a good day and it felt good to get outside and enjoy nature. An hour and a half later we were back home. We stopped at Chickafil for a bite to eat and catch up on emails. Got the boys all packed-they packed themselves, and we all got to bed early as we were planning on leaving here at 4:30 am in order to get to the airport on time.

It was fun having the boys with us and it will also be fun to be on our own. Tomorrow we will be camping in Malibu.
